I live in Jasper.  I'm not very familiar with trails and stuff around here, since I'm 4x4less..  Are y'all talking about the Carbon Hill area?  Dogtown, party hill, etc.. I've been out there once, back in high school.. went with a few friends, and that's what got me hooked on off-roading.

Anyway, the places I'm talking about are old strip pits.  The worst part is its a major dump from what I remember.

But between Jasper and B'ham...  Let me talk to my friend about Cordova.  She knows a lot of places..  Be back a litle later..

It is hard to find public place to ride anymore. Thats why we should all make sure we pack out our trash. Join a group that fights to keep our public trails open. Or everywhere will end up like Tellico rolleyes

What's the deal with the Markeeta area in Leeds/Moody. I keep hearing from folks riding out there and since the new mall is going in off 78, the authorities were turning a blind eye to the place. Anyone know? It used to be a heck of a ride from 78 to Moody..

Also, as a follow up, I did get arrested by USX gaurds/Moody police at Markeeta in '96. If it's not cool don't go. That said. I think USX is really missing out on an opportunity to create the best offroad park in the south. They could make the land from Grants Mill rd in Irondale all the way to Markeeta spur rd an awesome offroad park..

I also heard that people are wheeling the crap out of that area.  However, in an attempt to see for myself around Christmas, we got pulled over by an undercover cop as soon as we passed the gates.  He was nice but ran our tags, DL's and escorted us out.  I really think he as looking for drugs since the way we went in was throught a horrible neighborhood.

The "bowl" in Brantlyville is open again.  Nothing too exciting but enough to kill an afternoon.

When I got caught they had just closed off the area that's now the Barber track. Supposedly, markeeta was cool and USX was spending all their time around Grants Mill rd. Well, we rode all day and were getting ready to go up the gasline to Markeeta spur rd when the rolled up on us in black Suburbans. Both guys were armed and had their hands on their guns. Just then some folks came down the hill into Big Black creek. They turned around and left. USX folks said as long as they didn't cross the creek they were free to ride.

USX called Moody PD and escorted us to the road. The cops and gaurds boxed us in and drove us to city hall. About 6 months, 2 lawyers(friends luckily that were free) and a bunch of arguements, I got off with a $200 fine and trespassing on my record for 1 year. The guys I was with plead guilty and paid $400 so the judge didn't want to work a deal. He finally did though..

I use to go in off 78(behind the new mall construction) and cross the Cahaba there, unless it was to deep. The neighborhood in Leeds where you go over I-20 is pretty rundown..

I was in Maylene the other day. Where is the entrance to Brantleyville? Isn't it USX land as well?
